OIL

souls in turmoil

started way before standard oil

that is just one example of how they get and take

forgot the principle to give and receive

all they give is their greed

from which the fat, dumb, and happy feed

don’t worry

i know when you realize your ignorance it’s tough to handle

like damn i’m taking part in the biggest scandal

It is funny who we are taught about in school. I learned very little about corruption in politics and business and very little on an important topic: oil. We barely touched the surface in history class on what really happened during these events and did not get much perspective. Most importantly we did not learn how these events still affect us in our daily lives now.  Until recently, I did not understand what a muckraker was or hear of an example of one. A muckraker is an investigative journalist who aims to expose corruption. I recently read about Ida Tarbell, a muckraker, who exposed Standard Oil and John D. Rockefeller, the richest American to ever live. At first, the publishing of her expose on Standard Oil lead to action by ordering the illegal monopoly to be broken up into companies. This did not change much in the long run. The business remained to make a tremendous profit and John D. Rockefeller and his name lived on.. unblemished. After this, the issue with Standard Oil has been overlooked. It still operates in the same way, just not under the name of Standard Oil, rather Exxon Mobile, Chevron, and BP. The Rockefeller’s still hold great power over the economy using similar techniques as John D. Rockefeller to exploit others, gain more control, and make a larger profit. This has granted these big oil companies tremendous political power, even more so, with the recent appointing of Secretary of State to Rex Tillerson, the former CEO of ExxonMobil. This is particularly concerning with the issue of climate change, where programs in denial of the issue were funded by ExxonMobil in the past. Now, the former CEO holds  an influential position in politics, and it seems clear what his standpoint on the issue is.

“In 2016, the Rockefeller Family Fund announced that it would divest holdings from fossil fuel companies. They would do so over time except in the case of ExxonMobil which was singled out “for immediate divestment because of its morally reprehensible conduct.”

They blame the company for actively fighting to discredit scientific research into the issue of climate change. David Kaiser, a fifth-generation descendant of John D. Rockefeller, published an article outlining some findings of their investigation, showing extensive lobbying efforts by ExxonMobil against the Kyoto Protocol treaty. The findings also allege successful efforts by the company to lobby Vice President Dick Cheney and President George W. Bush to replace government-related scientists who believed in climate change with skeptics” (http://bigthink.com/paul-ratner/why-the-rockefellers-are-battling-exxonmobil-over-climate-change)

“Exxon Mobil, under fire over its past efforts to undercut climate science, is accusing the Rockefeller family of masterminding a conspiracy against it. Yes, that Rockefeller family.

The company, which has been accused of scheming to pay surrogates to deny the threat of climate change, is trying to turn the tables by calling its opponents the real conspirators. It is fighting state attorneys general, journalists and environmental groups in an all-out campaign to defend its image.

But the oil and gas giant has directed some of its fiercest fire at the descendants of John D. Rockefeller, who in 1870 founded Standard Oil, the company that became Exxon Mobil. Rockefeller family charities, longtime backers of environmental causes, have supported much of the research and reporting that has called the company to account for its climate policies, and Exxon Mobil is crying foul”(https://www.nytimes.com/2016/11/21/science/exxon-mobil-rockefellers-climate-change.html)

There seems to be no fine line to divide who did what in this issue, since the Rockefeller family has made their fortune off of the company ExxonMobil. Everything seems rather hypocritical and like the public’s view of the truth has been obscured, yet again by a big corporation.

The Facts:

$4 billionaire of taxpayers’ money is used to give tax breaks to oil companies

Oil reserves have taken billions of years to build up and are being depleted just within a hundred.

“Greenhouse gas emissions, primarily from the burning of fossil fuels, have already warmed the globe by more than 1°C since the beginning of the industrial revolution. Unless we can rein in these emissions and ambitiously transition to a just, clean, and renewable energy future – the planet will become unrecognizable as global temperatures soar by 4, 5, or 6 °C and beyond.” (http://priceofoil.org/thepriceofoil/global-warming/)

Wind power is cost-effective. Land-based utility-scale wind is one of the lowest-priced energy sources available today, costing between two and six cents per kilowatt-hour, depending on the wind resource and the particular project’s financing. Because the electricity from wind farms is sold at a fixed price over a long period of time (e.g. 20+ years) and its fuel is free, wind energy mitigates the price uncertainty that fuel costs add to traditional sources of energy.

Wind creates jobs. The U.S. wind sector employed more than 100,000 workers in 2016, and wind turbine technician is one of the fastest-growing American jobs of the decade. According to the Wind Vision Report, wind has the potential to support more than 600,000 jobs in manufacturing, installation, maintenance, and supporting services by 2050.

It’s a clean fuel source. Wind energy doesn’t pollute the air like power plants that rely on combustion of fossil fuels, such as coal or natural gas, which emit particulate matter, nitrogen oxides, and sulfur dioxide—causing human health problems and economic damages. Wind turbines don’t produce atmospheric emissions that cause acid rain, smog, or greenhouse gases.” (https://energy.gov/eere/wind/advantages-and-challenges-wind-energy)

Hopefully, in the future, we can work collectively to move toward using renewable sources of energy, without anyone monopolizing the energy industry.

How to Receive Love

we lead by example and teach others how to love us,

so it is funny how quick we are to get upset,

when someone treats us the way we treat ourselves,

shocked that they act like they still love us,

when they barely take the time to connect,

but how can they know someone who hasn’t taken the time to connect with and know themselves.

we take after each other,

so teach love.

what you put out you get back.

what you put in you release out.

what kind of signals are you sending people and how are you teaching others to treat you?

we are cradled in illusion,
sleeping within the comfort of the known,
but enlightenment asks us to wake and push beyond,
to ascend and become immersed in the infinite,
to become one.
you will not truly escape this world and feel what it is to live,
until you free yourself of the ideas of the inconceivable
and just know.
surrender to the serenity and let the infinite engulf you.
see that there is no death to you and this idea is what holds you here in misery,
it is what causes you to suffer,
but this life is not an ultimatum for your chance at heaven,
rather a chasm in the infinite.
you are ALL.
this time here is for realization, experience, creation,
for the ONE to divide just to feel the strength of reconnection.
humanity is the broken bond of cells,
which thrive together in homeostasis.
we create this world.
your life is powerful,
your presence,
your very being.
just realizing you create it all,
consciously or unconsciously,
you do,
so take back your power and live how you envision

i’ve fallen in love with change and uncertainty

a worldly experience pours into my consciousness

i allow it to flow through me

fill every aspect of my being

i am not drained

these challenges have warmed the blood in my body

and kept my heartbeat steady

each inflow and outflow of breath is another second i am alive

never asleep, never still

constant

constant movement of thoughts, emotion, fear, love

i am not held by any of these

each moment is different to the next

so this must mean i am free

i am free to change and stop resisting the fact that circumstances will never stay the same

i am free to choose

i’ll choose to be like a black raven beating its wings underneath the sun of the Indian summer

enduring the heat

expecting the changes of Autumn

change- g.c.

Lucid Dreaming

fullsizeoutput_6

i feel each stage

my consciousness floats away

but my body remains

i feel the cold stillness of my body

i sink into the depths of my present reality

and journey to different planes

i come to the realization that a part of me is still awake

and i am in the presence of an unknown energy

a floating image somewhat familiar awakened me

still in the dream state

i fight to become fully aware and gain control of my body

disoriented at first

paralyzed by fear

because i have been here before

only it never lasted this long

i never had to fight this hard

i relax and remember to be present

i remember the impermanence of my reality

i move, wiggle

try to feel my breath

after several minutes

i am ready to give in and be swallowed by a dark presence

everything spins out of control

my heart beat quickens and the veil is lifted

my eyes open and i gasp

i never left

but what was once there is no longer

and i am in control

planetary pollution

a world filled with illusion

awakening means movement

sit still little girl

there is no room for improvement

just this path

hold in those tears

it is of a man to have rage and wrath

noises aren’t real fears

be grateful

it wasn’t you those fists hit

did you want them to?

hush

swallow the lumps

little girl your words are distasteful

stop hurting yourself

memories don’t fade like your cuts, bruises, and bumps

and to answer your question

yes

i want it to be me

maybe that way you’d learn to handle your aggression

it’s not that I wish to feel the warmth of welts forming

rather than to not hear your heavy feet storming

towards to door of someone else i love

i’m not begging for your fists to color my porcelain skin

but I’d rather they not smash into the wall again

i want to scream stop

as you bang your chest and the veins in your head throb

you’re hurting yourself

slipping away

farther

killing your daughter

because i do not want you

my beaten up father

i want the man who speaks softly

when he hears the footsteps of his daughter

the only time he is yelling is out of joy

as he plays the big scary monster and chases after his little boy

but then you took the game too far

when your life got repetitive my brother got the blame

the only thing he got from the chase was his very own rage

and with that came shame

so he drowns himself in liquor

because he is still a boy

he can’t survive like you do

swimming in those same old thoughts

day in and day out

for years i was blinded by my own anger

all i saw was a shell that rots

but now i know that you are not empty

the frustration and aching in your bones just make those wild fits tempting

but they don’t want to see you like that

but i know soon you’ll explode if you don’t get some release

you have yet to learn that pounding your fists is not how you breathe

i only hope you find your niche

some form of therapy

but do not give up

please

it is okay if you change

there is nothing to lose but only to gain

my love will not waver

mom is trying to grow

but do not cave for her

you do not need to shrink

if you make yourself any smaller

limit yourself farther

my heart will surely sink

it is all in your head

all in how you think

transform

the scars we will shed

let your soul be fed

nurture yourself

your kids are grown

we are strong enough on our own

we have hurt you too

so return the punch

one last hit

sweep the rug from under our feet

it is okay

i am familiar with the taste of defeat

but i know once i fall

i’ll be ready to fly

because i learned from you

at the end of the day

we all must try

so let us break then consolidate

let us redirect fate

i love you

that will always hold true

breathe

the day is new

my family will breathe – g.c.

i love the lonely nights

when i sit in spite of the clock

its tedious tick

has the characteristic of a gnawing itch

it is a mind game

i win

i make the rules

decide if i will be eluded

i’ve grown stronger now

my perception reaches beyond deception

the quiet night

quiet like myself

words floating closer to the surface

quickly I catch them

spoken

my views face discretion

i will never get them

so i am here on my own

thank god i no longer cling and know how to be alone

if they only knew gentleness

delicate enough to hold the truth

they’d be thrown

the world would spin around and head closer to home

the stars we’ve been shown

but fear kept us from knowing

the pain is showing

i psychoanalyze each and every encounter

i must deal with disguise but i won’t stop trying

because my hunger is not for a lies

try to offer and soothe

hoping the gentle and calm will bring about anxiety and hatred’s demise

those feelings harbor dark places for the ego to thrive

it’s time it was brushed off

for i can see it in their eyes

their shoulders are tired

it is difficult enough to put up the facade

to hold all this weight

dreams crushed instead of made

they can still be saved

i am still hopeful

the night is my rope still

i hold on to move on

forgiveness

i am mending

intertwined with the divine

grasp onto the line

let it lift you

high enough to see the light

then you’ll see just as i

even though the night is dark and lonely

everything is alright

you will be fine
